Life and Time

Estancia La Paz has been renovated to become a remarkable development that covers 500 hectares where a hotel, a countryside neighborhood, a golf course, two polo fields, a sports area and much more coexist, in what was the summer residence of the two-time President of Argentina Julio A. Roca.

The Home of a Nation

In the beginning, these lands were called Corral de Piedra and were inhabited by the native people of the Sanavirones. Later, they were donated to the convent of the Colegio de la Compañía de Jesús to be incorporated into Estancia Santa Catalina. It was renamed Estancia La Paz to commemorate the peace (paz) treaty between Buenos Aires and the Argentine Confederation. Throughout history, it witnessed glorious moments and reached its splendor when it became the summer house of Julio A. Roca. The former president modernized the estancia in a neoclassical-Italian style and commissioned the French landscaper Charles Thays to design the 100-hectare park with its artificial lake. During his administrations, he governed the country from La Paz, which was visited during that period by prominent politicians such as Avellaneda, Mitre, Sarmiento, Pellegrini and Figueroa Alcorta.

Thays Park

The park dates back to 1901, when the French landscaper Charles Thays was called upon to design this 100-hectare space, including an artificial lake. Today, the park covers 24 hectares and, along with the trees, is one of the main protagonists of the estancia.

Ascochinga River

Go for a walk. Get lost following the sound of the Ascochinga River. Along the 7 km of river that surround the estancia there are two beaches and there is always the possibility of enjoying an unparalleled sunny afternoon.
